My Cozy Corner

New Beginnings

Hello! Welcome! Pull up a chair in My Cozy Corner!

With all loss, comes the opportunity for a new beginning. Sometimes that is hard to see or believe. God promises that after the darkest night, joy comes in the morning. I believe that what we grieve most after a loss is the death of our dreams. We learn resilience over time. It doesn’t come easy, but the old is passed away and all things become new. As we enter into Autumn even the trees teach us there must be loss for new life.

Do you love Autumn? It is one of my favorites. I like the dusky skies and the crisp air. I love the turning of the leaves. Right now, I’m planning a vacation to do some leaf peeping in the northeast US. Mr. M and I had been planning this trip for some time and had planned to drive across the country with stops along the way. I decided to take the trip anyway, but I will fly. I’m not up for driving across the country by myself. Adventuring on my own is a new beginning for me. I have traveled for work by myself, but not a vacation. Truthfully, I will be based at my son’s home in New Jersey, but I do feel like it is my first solo vacation.

I love the food of Autumn. You already know that I like nothing better than a big pot of soup that I can heat up over and over again all during the week. I would love to hear what some of your favorites are. It’s also the time of year when we can finally be comfortable with the oven going. I love the smells of baking. I don’t bake as much as I used to, but cookies are a favorite. When I was growing up my mother made cookies every week. The rule; make them last there would not be more until next week. What’s your favorite? Think about making them this week.

I hope you are planning adventures for these Autumn days. This week my forever friend, Marty, came for a visit and we took in a baseball game. It was great fun, despite a losing game. I try to plan an adventure about once a week. I have friends who say that they never do anything. Is that because of circumstances or a choice we make? I’m an introvert’s introvert, and even I understand the value of getting out and doing something, just for fun.

What are you reading? In honor of Banned Books Week, I started reading “The Handmaid’s Tale”. I hope you will look up this list of recently banned books and choose one to read. It is very important that we cling to our right to be informed, even if it makes some folks uncomfortable.

I’m running a little late with this, so I will say goodby for now. Thank you for spending a little time with me.

Helen
