My Cozy Corner

And That Was the Year That Was!

Hello, and welcome to My Cozy Corner. It’s cold outside, but the coffee is not and there is always a comfy blanket close at hand.

To say that 2022 was not the best year of my life, would be an understatement. You all know the story, so I won’t go into it. But it has also been a year of incredible growth. I have done things that I never thought I would find myself doing and making decisions that I never wanted to make.

I would be remiss if I only talked about the low points. A lot of the growth that has taken place has been, once again, recalculating who I am. After years of caregiving, I am learning to care for myself and embrace ME! I encourage you to do the same.

Two of the books that I read this year that have fed my soul are “Growing Slow” by Jennifer Dukes Lee, and “Ordinary on Purpose” by Mikala Albertson. I have made reference to these two books many times over the past few months. They have fed my soul as I worked through a tough year of growth. I recommend them, to say the least.

Remember pen pals when you were school age? Well, they are still around. I LOVE snail mail. The evenings were lonely without Mr. M. I found a Facebook group called “Silver Snail Mail Pen Pals”. It is a ladies only group and I have made several new friends who have filled my lonely evenings with conversation in reading and writing.

You all already know a lot about Miss Priss. She has been my companion since about April. She seems to know just when I need cuddles. We still don’t quite agree on the time to get up in the morning, but we are getting there!

I signed up for online classes. I am taking a writing class, an art class, and a self-help class. I am getting in touch with the creative side of me. Now that there are fewer meals to prepare and fewer toilets to clean, I can spend that time on the things I would like to accomplish in this life.

I don’t want you to think this is all about me. I share these things because I’m hoping that you can glean some little something from what has worked for me and get out there on your own fulfilling journey.

  1. Your blog and also the Scriptures you include, give me hope and encouragement daily for my own journey. Thank you, Helen, for your faith and your friendship! Thank you also for the book recommendations! I’m going to definitely try to find them!
    God Bless You!
